Empowering Youth Voices:
Emerald Secondary College Joins EVA Committee
Emerald Secondary College (ESC) collaboration with EVA is to benefit 64 ESC Leadership students as well as the community. Following the first meeting with ESC on 14/7/23, and discussion at the Planning meeting on 19/7/23, the following motion was proposed and passed:
- A Special Ordinary Member position, titled “Secondary School Student Representative”, be created on the EVA Committee.
- The ESC Student Representative shall be open to secondary school students nominated by the school.
- The Emerald Secondary School Student Representative may be a rotational person to foster greater opportunities for other students to participate.
- As meetings are open, other support students or an adult acceptable to the school may accompany the representative to meetings.
- The Emerald Village Committee shall provide appropriate support and mentorship to the Emerald Secondary School Student Representative, helping them understand their role, responsibilities, and the functioning of the Emerald Village Committee.
- The Emerald Village Committee shall include the Secondary School Student Representative in relevant discussions and activities, seeking the submission of items for discussion and their input on matters that affect the youth and the village’s future.
- That the Emerald Secondary School Representative Council be encouraged to provide a regular article to the EVA News on matters that affect the youth within the village.
- It is suggested that EVA should include the two ESC Assistant Principals in EVA’s mailing list so that they receive EVA Agendas and Minutes.
